Men's Yoga 101
Six weeks of yoga built for men. Physically challenging, intelligently structured, and designed to make you feel at home in any yoga class.
Who is this for?
If you're the man
Maybe someone signed you up. Maybe you've been curious but put off by walking into a class where everyone seems to know what they're doing and you don't. Maybe you've tried yoga once and felt lost or out of place. Men's 101 is built for exactly that starting point. You'll be challenged physically — more than you expect — and you'll leave with a real understanding of how to practice yoga in a way that works for your body.
If you're signing someone up
The reason most men don't stick with yoga isn't that they can't do it — it's that nobody showed them how to do it in a way that feels right for them. Men's 101 addresses that directly. By the end of six weeks, the man you signed up will know how to walk into any yoga class and hold his own. That's the goal. This program is specifically designed to make that happen.
What to actually expect
Yoga classes are typically 70–80% women. If you've never done yoga, walking into that room as a beginner — in a physical activity where everyone around you seems to know exactly what they're doing — is genuinely uncomfortable. Most men who try yoga and don't come back aren't quitting because of the yoga. They're quitting because nobody helped them navigate that room.
Men's 101 gives you the tools to navigate it. The most important thing you'll learn is this: props and smart modifications are not signs of weakness. They're what experienced practitioners use. A well-executed modified pose with a block looks far better than a collapsed version of the full pose. Every week in this program the answer to "how do you look like you know what you're doing?" is the same: props and modifications.
Beyond that — this is a physically demanding program. Jim teaches poses that challenge upper body strength, balance, and endurance. You'll work hard. And coming out of savasana at the end of each session, you'll feel something you probably weren't expecting.
Six weeks, one session at a time
Each session follows a consistent structure: a short lecture on anatomy or technique, focused pose breakdown, and a flowing sequence that builds on everything taught so far. Participants receive a weekly practice guide to take home. By the end of six weeks, men have been exposed to vinyasa, hot yoga, and yin — and can walk confidently into any style of class.
Week 1
Foundation
The basics of alignment, breath, and how to use props. Introduction to the Men's 101 philosophy: modify intelligently, use props confidently, build from the ground up.
Week 3
Strength and upper body
Where men often have a genuine advantage. Arm balances, core work, and poses that reward upper body strength — the class where most men realize they're better at this than they thought.
Week 5
Yin yoga
The hardest week for most men. Long-held passive poses targeting connective tissue — and a lesson in why stillness and surrender are their own kind of strength.
Week 2
Hips and lower back
The area where most men feel most limited. Targeted poses, modifications, and props that actually work for male hip anatomy — and why forcing flexibility never works.
Week 4
Hot yoga
An introduction to the Bikram/hot yoga format — what to expect, how to pace yourself, and why the heat changes everything. Taught in a heated space if available.
Week 6
Integration
A full flowing sequence drawing on everything from the previous five weeks. The class where it all comes together — and where most men decide they're coming back.
A seventh makeup session is available for participants who missed a week. Students who attended all six sessions are welcome to join for a small additional fee.

About me
I have practiced yoga for over twenty years and taught for fifteen. I’m a man who came to yoga as an adult and learned everything about navigating a practice that wasn't originally designed for how he moved. I’ve taught men specifically long enough to know where the resistance comes from, what helps, and what the experience feels like on the other side of six weeks.
He's also a photographer specializing in yoga — so if you want to be photographed in your practice at the end of the workshop, that can be arranged.
